Our story

Alfagel, ice cream and sorbet manufacturer

Since 2005 Alfagel’s story has evolved on the basis of know-how, values and strong commitments.

2005 Founding of Alfagel

Fabrice Jaubert and Alain Kaskassian created Alfagel in 2005 in Marseille. They are both passionate about Provence and the region’s gastronomy and started their Alfagel adventure by acquiring the Maison de la Glace brand, a real local institution founded by Pierre Zappella in 1947.
In 2006 Alfagel set up its production laboratory at the MIN des Arnavaux in Marseille, the fruit and vegetable market for wholesalers, importers and local producers. A production tool to produce artisan ice creams and sorbets for the catering industry.
Very quickly (2006), these entrepreneurs decided to focus on the regional supermarkets which were looking for quality artisan ice creams.

2011 and 2013

Range development

Driven by a desire to innovate and enhance the value of good products, Alfagel continued to develop with the creation of ice cream sticks. Ice-cream sticks that break away from industry standards, with an artisan approach that reflects Maison de la Glace's manufacturing process.

Alfagel lacked the tools to mechanise this production, and met with Italian ice cream stick manufacturers, the Cazzaniga brothers, to pool their know-how. The Italian production of the first Pop Polo ice lollies began on the basis of the ingredients and recipes developed by Alfagel for its ice pops, commonly known as "yetis".
This natural ice pop, with no artificial flavours or colours, made Pop Polo a local and even national reference. The success of the Pop Polo ice pops was the talk of the town.

In 2013, during the Marseille European Capital of Culture events, Alfagel was authorised to place two electric three-wheeler bikes in the Vieux Port. It was at this local event that Alfagel launched the Pop Fruit, brand, sorbets on a stick of a quality never previously available on the French market.

━ 2017

Launch of the Pop Fruit Bio organic range

This emblematic range demonstrated Alfagel's commitment to "better eating" and "better sourcing" in order to offer products that were increasingly in line with consumer expectations.
At the same time, Alfagel started a new R&D project spanning all its ranges: eco-packaging in order to begin a transition towards 0% plastic packaging that was suited to the many constraints of cold chain products.

2018

The industrial challenge

After two years of research and one year of work, Alfagel inaugurated its new factory located in Trets en Provence.
This factory is located at the foot of the Sainte Victoire and has been entirely designed to meet Alfagel's development needs while limiting its impact on the environment.
Low-energy building, self-consumption photovoltaic plant, heat recovery... a tool in line with the ambitions of the founders and their teams.
